Gluten-free Apple Crumble
with Durramjöl & Oats
There are few things that beat the smell of a freshly baked apple pie spreading through the home. By using da Carla Durramjöl in the crumble, you give the classic pie a modern, gluten-free update with a fantastic nutty flavour and a perfect crispness that really lifts the dessert. This Apple Crumble is a sure favourite that works just as well as a luxurious end to a dinner as it does for a simple Sunday coffee with the family. To get the ultimate balance between sweetness and acidity, the choice of apples is crucial; go for firm and tart varieties like Aroma, Ingrid Marie or the classic Granny Smith. These varieties keep their structure in the oven and give a fresh contrast to the sweet crumble.
Ingredients
- 250 g butter
- 3 dl da Carla Durramjöl
- 3 dl oats (gluten-free)
- 2.5 dl sugar
- A pinch of salt
- 2-3 apples
- Cinnamon and cardamom
How to make it
- Set the oven to 220 degrees.
- Mix butter, Durramjöl and oats in a bowl and work together into a crumbly dough. Stir in sugar and salt.
- Cut the apples into smaller pieces, place them in a dish lined with baking paper and season generously with cinnamon and cardamom.
- Spread the crumble evenly over the apples and bake in the middle of the oven for about 10–15 minutes until the pie has taken on a nice colour and the topping feels crisp.
- Serve with cream, ice cream or custard.
